Depending on the patient's present medical situation, the air medical transfer might be possible aboard a regular airliner. Especially on intercontinental flights, this option can be a safe and cost effective solution.
The patient will be accompanied by one or two medical escorts, depending on distance and illness. If the patient is able to sit for short periods, the flight may be done in business class with lie-flat-seats. If a constant lying position is required, a stretcher can be installed.
We will perform a bed-to-bed transfer whenever possible. This means we will meet the patient in the hospital abroad and receive a handover from the treating team. And we will accompany the patient to the hospital near home and do a handover to the next treating team. This prevents more handovers in between with higher risk of loss of information.
We are able to arrange everything, from the treating physician's first medical report, all documentation needed for the airline, organisation of the seats, stretcher and additional oxygen. Also ground ambulances can be organised on both sides.
